The Wagon of Death

The legend of the wagon of death is one of the best known here in Oaxaca, so much so that it is told in various ways, originating from our grandparents, who feared and continue to fear it, waiting for their grandchildren and children.

Next, we will listen to one of the different versions that have come out of this.

Video Description:
Many years ago, my grandfather told me a story that every time I heard it made my mind blow up and imagine the picture of what a woman in this story experienced. On the edge of the town where we lived there was an almost forgotten road, I remember well that on one side of that road there were the remains of what seemed to have been a cabin. I always wondered why someone would build a cabin so far on the edge of town, until my grandfather told me the story. That old cabin belonged to a woman who was rejected by the whole town, since, according to what they said, she practiced black magic, this led her to build this cabin in the least visited part of the town. On one occasion, my grandfather was walking down that road and met that woman. As my grandfather was not very prone to believing in witchcraft, he saw no problem in talking to that mysterious woman. They talked about many interesting things, since she had many topics of conversation. But out of everything I talked about with my grandfather, there was something that really caught his attention. This woman said that for a long time on that old road, every time someone died in the town at dawn, she heard a cart pulled by several horses go by. The trot that was heard was at least 4 horses and behind them a caravan of people. The woman said that she had never had the courage to look out to see what all this was about, and that although she was used to hidden things, that parade of people and the sound of this wagon passing by on this road, located to the side of her The cabin generated a lot of fear, so they spent a good time talking and even my grandfather continued to visit that woman for a while. Until one day a person from that town died and my grandfather remembered what this woman told him about that crowd of people and this wagon passing through that road, at dawn whenever someone died in that town. Full of curiosity, my grandfather went the next day to that woman's house hoping she would tell him if the wagon had passed by again that morning, but when he got to that old cabin he realized that the woman was not there. He only found some writings on top of an old table that said: "Death in his cart has taken many and today it will take one more, but I will no longer resist curiosity and I will overcome my fears, and I will go out and see all that procession headed by the wagon of death". When my grandfather read this, he went out to the road to see if he could find any sign that a cart had passed by or the footsteps of a crowd of people, but what he found on the side of that road was the body of that lifeless woman, She had an expression of terror engraved on her face. My grandfather always told me that he believed that that woman, blinded by curiosity, had gone out that night to see that funeral procession and most likely saw a crowd of spirits and death itself mounted on his cart.
